Throughout our first year
in Ecuador, we were made aware of the need to help equip the indigenous of
Ecuador to adjust to a culture that is quickly changing. Something that
we saw lacking in the believers in Ecuador was a heart to help people outside of their
community. The vision we see is to help equip and educate the people we are
here serving, so that they can carry showing Christ's love to those in
Ecuador long after we have gone. We believe the heart behind missions is to ignite a fire for Christ in
the local communities so that they will then be able to serve their own
people more effectively and in turn fulfill the great commission. One
way we are doing this through supporting church planting efforts in
indigenous communities that already have a small group of believers with a
vision. We are also equipping them to survive in an area that is quickly
changing through guiding them in the process of setting up businesses and teaching English. Our most recent outreach has been educating
community leaders on health programs available and resources so that
families with special needs children can feel better equipped to raise these
children in a loving family environment. We help provide funding for church
plants efforts, purchasing of Bibles, audio Bible translation into
Quechua of the Pastaza, as well as funds for critical health care
needs. But that is only half of our ministry here in Ecuador. We have been able to see many hearts changed through the experience of short term mission teams. Last year alone, we hosted over 10 teams of primarily youth and young adults in Ecuador. These young people not only helped show the people of Ecuador sacrificial love, but most also experienced the Lord in a new way through serving a week or two in Ecuador. We believe that we are not only called to serve those here in Ecuador, but also God's children (young and old) from the United States. |
